3 Signs it’s Time to Replace Your Plumbing System
We often take our plumbing systems for granted. We take showers day in and day out, we wash our dishes, we fill our water filters, brush our teeth, do our laundry, the list really can go on and on. However, as your plumbing system ages, it’s important not to ignore some warning signs. Now don’t get us wrong, you shouldn’t replace your plumbing system just because it’s old. After all, don’t fix it if it isn’t broken. But, there are some things to keep an eye out for that indicate your plumbing system is in need of replacement due to its age. Read on!
Water is Not Clear
When you’re using your water, it should be clear. If your water is any other color besides clear when you turn on the faucet, take this as a potential warning sign. Keep in mind, if you operate off of a well system this may be common. If you are on a well system and find yourself concerned, contact your plumber and get your water tested. But, if you’re on a pipe system, you don’t want tinted brown water. Water with a brown tint is an indicator of pipe corrosion, and you definitely don’t want your water mingling with any rust that may be present in your pipes.
When you turn on your faucet, can you smell anything? If you can, take this as a bad sign. You shouldn’t be smelling anything when water comes out of your pipes. This is an indication of bacteria buildup within the pipes themselves and could very well mean you might have to replace parts of your plumbing system. A common smell you’ll find in this scenario is that of eggs.
Signs of Mold and Water Damage
Leaking pipes are nothing new and they do pop up occasionally. If you get them fixed in a timely manner, you’re likely on easy street. But, if the leak is subtle, and you don’t catch it, it can remain undetected for a time and cause some real damage. When leaks remain hidden behind walls, they can reveal themselves in the form of brown water stains. This will soon lead to mold formation, and the longer you let it unknowingly sit the worse it’s going to get.
